This Web Site has been developed using a variety of hardware and software over many months. It initially started as a local site, to allow me to view my files more easily and then came online when I did (with a 14.4k modem!) and then onto some free web space.

The Hardware

The system was initially developed and hosted on an Amiga 500 with 6meg of RAM, which was then upgraded to an Amiga 4000/30 with 10meg of RAM. It is now developed and a dual-booting P166MHz PC with 64meg of RAM and hosted on a Pentium Pro 200MHz with 192meg of RAM.

The Software

The initial site was written with a variety of shareware software. The HTML coding is written using the excellent Web Edit Pro and most image manipulation is done using Adobe Photoshop, versions 3.05 and 4.0.

CGI scripts are edited in Wed Edit Pro, as this allows plain text files to be edited.

The site is hosted on a system running Linux, with the Apache webserver.

Site Hosting

This site is hosted by Corpex, who have a dedicated 1meg line and generally an impressive setup. I can happily recommend you try them if you are looking to get your own Web Site up and running. (They are also taking pre-submissions for the new top level domains that are being launched in February/March 1998).

Why Does sirtisUK Exist?

Mainly...

  1. To allow me to develop my HTML skills
  2. To act as a testing ground for web development and marketing
  3. To give something back to the world
  4. To give me a personal web site
  5. To make the largest Marina Sirtis archive in the world
